Retinoscopy • The eye care specialist uses a retinoscope to shine a light into the client’s eyes. • A set of lenses are held up in front of the client’s eyes and the light is moved across the pupil. • The eye care specialist then observes how the light “moves” and can then estimate what refraction is needed.
Function of Phoropter • Part of the assessment of the client’s visual acuity. • The eye care specialist gets a general idea about how much correction is needed either through use of a retinoscope or computerized assessment. • Then the phoropter allows a variety of different lenses to be placed in front of the client’s eyes so they can “try out” different prescriptions.
