MAS specifics • Practical expert help from approved environmental practitioners • Projects from 1 day to 10 days duration • Energy, Waste, ISO+EMS, manufacturing improvements – leaner = greener • All classes of Yorkshire and Humber based manufacturers
Some MAS achievements • In the last 12 months MAS has completed:- • 389 long term improvement projects • Average GVA over £80,000 • Saved over 8,000 tonnes of CO2 • Saved over 6,600 tonnes of waste + water • Over 20 environmentally related projects • Over 250 1 day environmental/energy reviews
BREIG Scheme Outline • Part of CO2Sense’s Resource Efficiency programme to stimulate projects to reduce environmental impacts • Strictly for SMEs in Yorkshire and Humber region • Capital equipment purchases only • Outputs required, Substantial savings in:- • CO2 emissions through energy use • Raw material usage, land-filled waste etc. • Water consumption
BREIG Scheme Outline • 3 Types of grant available: • Capital, the majority of the fund • Capped at £8,000, minimum grant £500 • Not exceeding 20% of overall equipment cost • Consultancy, organised through the MAS network • Capped at £2,000 • Not exceeding 50% of the overall cost • Training (funding of last resort) • Capped at £500 per company • Not exceeding 50% of the overall cost
Successful BREIG awards • Digital print machinery for fabrics, substantial savings in energy and water, considerable benefits in terms of sales potential and contribution to GVA • Voltage Optimisation equipment for factory site, between 10-15% reduction in electricity usage • Waste wood used to replace gas in factory heating, saves energy AND diverts waste from landfill • Combined heating and lighting efficiency projects • Renewable energy installations
Breig achievements • Scheme awards so far will directly save:- • 1,200 tonnes of CO2 • 9,000 tonnes of waste + water • Over £200,000 cost savings
