ESPON - Stratégie MISSION • Soutenir des politiques développement territorial en lien avec la politique de cohésion de l’Union Européenne • Fournir des informations, des faits, des analyses, des scénarios, de façon comparable à l’échelle de l’UE, sur les structures et les dynamiques territoriales • Mettre en exergue le capital territorial et les potentialités des territoires en vue d’un développement équilibré des régions européennes

ESPON - Stratégie PRINCIPES • Le programme ESPON finance exclusivement des recherches • Les demandes politiques , des Etats Membres et de la Commission européenne, donnent le cadre des recherches • Les recherches visent une meilleure connaissance du développement territorial européen • L’utilisation des résultats (indicateurs, typologies, base de données, concepts, cas d’études approfondis) est un objectif prioritaire (capitalisation)

ESPON - 5 Priorités • Priority 1: recherche appliquée – DEMIFER / FOCI Applied research on territorial development, competitiveness and cohesion • Priority 2: analyse ciblée - METROBORDER / TPM Targeted analysis based on user demands/ European perspective to different types of territories • Priority 3: plate forme scientifique/base de données – Atelier 1 Scientific platform and tools/ Territorial indicators, data, analytical tools and scientific support

ESPON Output – doelstellingen • Steden als aandrijvers van ontwikkeling • Versterken van polycentrische ontwikkeling en netwerking • Rurale gebieden in partnerschap met stedelijke gebieden • Ontwikkeling van perifere gebieden, berggebieden, eilanden en dunbevolkte regio’s • Promotie van grensoverschreidende regio’s • Versterken en uitbreiden van Trans-Europese netwerken • Ondersteunen van trans-Europese risk-management (klimaatimpact) • Versterken van ecologische structuren en culturele en natuurlijke hulpbronnen  Aandacht voor potentieel van (perifere) regio’s • Aandacht voor netwerken en governance • Integratie van regionale ontwikkeling en cohesie
