Learning Intentions You will prepare and plan for your assessment You will develop strategies to help you to do this You will work with others You will work independently You will examine a religious/ philosophical question of your choice and come to some conclusions about it You will prepare a presentation for assessment You will be able to recognise success in assessment at Nat 4 and 5
Success Criteria • You will confidently work towards producing a presentation • You will have worked effectively with others • You will have been challenged in thinking about a religious/ philosophical question • You will have independently produced an excellent presentation which will meet the assessment requirements
S4 Assessment Exemplars You need to prepare a presentation on one of these Religious and Philosophical Questions: Do Scientific theories prove that God does not exist? Can you believe in God and Science? Can religion and science co exist? Does the Big Bang theory fully explain the origins of the universe? Does the theory of evolution mean that there is no need for a Designer?
You should ensure that your presentation addresses the following points: • Describes/ explains the question • Why is this an important question to consider in today’s society? • Explains a religious response to the question • Explains a non religious response to the question • What similarities or differences are there between these two responses? • Taking these other views into account, what is your conclusion on the question? • Give reasons for your answer • For NAT 5 you must refer to relevant theories
You will be assessed on how well you have covered these points. Your notes and slides may be produced in paper or electronic format. Can you work with others to produce an individual piece of work ? What collaborative activities do you think would help you to achieve the tasks below? ( 5 mins to discuss and come up with a list- write it in your jotter) • Choose one of the above questions. • Prepare a presentation examining this question, explaining religious and non religious responses and presenting your own views • Your presentation should be supported with notes or presentation slides. These will help you provide evidence to meet the requirements below.
Discuss with the people you are going to work with WHAT you could do together ( e.g. research) and HOW you might go about this • Plan for success. Make a list of tasks you need to do. What can you do with others? What must you do alone? Carry out the activities you have decided on and consider how you are going to work effectively both with others and individually then do it • Keep a record in this sheet – this may be used as evidence • Prepare your presentation which will be assessed • You have 4/5 weeks altogether to carry this out: approximately two weeks working together, two weeks working on your own. You will be expected to do some of this at home. You will also be expected to present it to the class for peer assessment. (Someone can do it on your behalf)

Peer Assessment As you listen to each presentation, complete each section with an S when basic, straightforward information is presented and a D when detailed information is presented in each category. When the person has finished their presentation, tick whether you think they have attained a NAT 4 or NAT 5 award, overall.
