All you need to know about JEE Advanced 2018
JEE Advanced is one of the toughest competitive examinations in India through which candidates are selected for admission to 23 IITs and some other centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs). JEE Advanced is conducted by the seven zonal IITs with guidance from the Joint Admission Board (JAB), the policy-making body for admissions to IITs. The JEE-Advanced was earlier known as IIT-JEE. Selection to the IITs is a two stage process. In stage I, students have to clear the JEE Main (refer separate article on JEE Main). Only the top 2,24,000 students in JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. This number was 220,000 in 2017 and 200,000 in 2016. In stage II, these top ranking students take the JEE Advanced and only then the final list of successful students is prepared comprising 10,998 students. The JEE Advanced is conducted approximately one and a half months after the JEE Main. This year the IITs are contemplating of increasing the seats for girl students primarily in the new IITs like Mandi, Hyderabad, Ropar, Jodhpur, Bhubaneshwar, Indore and Gandhinagar.
