FTP In The Marketing Cloud Server • We cannot use FTP In the Marketing Cloud Server directly. • To Use FTP and perform operations like – IMPORT, EXPORT and REPORTS We Must Connect With The Third-Party Client Known As FileZilla. • You need to understand before starting the connection process.
What is FTP? • File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a method for transferring data from one system to another. • The FTP server uses the SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). • It also Imports a large subscriber data file into a Subscriber list. • Marketing Cloud supports only Standard ports when Configuring FTP Sites • The organization-wise folder will be created, and it will be only for Organization which contains the User ID and Password to access the folder.
Why use FTP? • Marketing Cloud creates IMPORT, EXPORT, and REPORTS folder in SFTP Site. • Use the SFTP folder to import data into a list or Data Extension in Marketing Cloud. • We can Import the Data using Automation Process and we need to use the File Transfer activity. • Use SFTP for Data Extract functionality. • It pulls data from your application database to review and use it with other applications.
How to add FTP Account • FTP Accounts to assign FTP Privileges to users in Marketing Cloud • Each account includes an individual status. • Enabled – FTP Account is ready to use • Pending – FTP account is pending for approval • Locked – The FTP account cannot be used. • Contact your Marketing Cloud account representative for assistance.
The FTP site is available at these locations • S1: ftp://ftp1.exacttarget.com • S4: ftp://ftp.s4.exacttarget.com • S6: ftp://ftp.s6.exacttarget.com • S7: ftp://ftp.s7.exacttarget.com • S10: ftp://ftp.s10.exacttarget.com

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Case-Study Scope: Our client has millions of subscribers in the marketing cloud and they wanted to use the Marketing cloud automation process. They were using a manual process to import data into Data Extension. The challenge to use the FTP location: ●The customer wanted to implement a process in which, once the report is exported to the Report Folder in FTP it would import into Data Extension. ●The customer also wanted to move the file from the Report folder to Import Folder then perform the Automated process. Solution: Now our client is using Enhance FTP and connect with FileZilla.
Salesforce Marketing Cloud ● Create a new Data Extract activity with “Enhance FTP File Move and Copy” Extract type. ● It will Move/Copy file from one folder to another folder ● Then Create an Import Activity to import the same file into Data Extension ● To automate the Process, Use Automation for the Import Activity.
