India successfully Tests Blood Supply through Drone underDronProgram
For the first time in the country, on Wednesday, a special drone carrying 10 bottles of blood from Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh successfully reached Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) had successfully tested the supply of blood bottles through drones under the iDron program. This marks the first time that blood bottles were transported between Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi and the Government Institute of Medical Sciences in Greater Noida.
The drone carried 10 bottles of blood. Prior to this, the ICMR had successfully conducted the supply of medical supplies, vaccines, and medicines through drones in remote areas of Manipur and Nagaland. Dr. Rajiv Bahal, Director General of ICMR, said that the Dronprogram was initially used for the distribution of vaccines in remote areas during the first COVID pandemic. Today, we are transporting blood and related products that need to be kept at a low temperature. Later, it will be used throughout the country.
