  1. Rheumatology may be a medical field that relates itself to the arthritic problems, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid. The word ''rheumatology'' springs from two languages. Rheuma is taken from the Greek language that signifies "streams as a river" and ology may be a suffix word meaning "the study of." Rheuma also means a sort of watery buildup. Atrophic arthritis, once normally called rheumatism, was once known to be caused by a buildup of liquid within the joints, the supposed 'water on the joints'. This was perhaps because reddened joints swell, and therefore the ancients accredited that to liquid buildup.
