Patient history • 75 year old female • Atrial fibrillation • Osteoporosis • Precious smoker • High blood pressure • Patient seen in general clinic to remove an old crown and mentioned she had severe pain under her denture.
Dialogue with the patient • How long do you wear your denture? • Atleast 12 hours a day or more • Do you where your denture over night? • No • How long have you had these lesions? • About a week • Have you changed your medications lately? • No • Does it feel like your denture rubs this spot when you chew or talk? • Yes
Description of the lesion • Red • Multiple • Epithelial • Flat • Ill-defined border • Localized to the maxillary ridge • Under denture • Doesn’t wipe off
Diagnosis • Differential Diagnosis • Denture sore/oral trauma • Coxsackie virus • Aphthous stomatitis • Herpes simplex • Provisional Diagnosis • Denture sore/oral trauma • Treatment: Denture adjustment and allow to heal. Follow-up if lesion persists.
