  1. AOI Human Ingenuity!Finding and Using Metals By: Arnav Arora Grade 8E Science

  2. What is Human Ingenuity • Human ingenuity is the way humans can make change for good or bad.

  3. The Reactivity Series

  4. Reactivity Series with Dates of Discovery • Potassium: 1807 • Sodium: 1807 • Calcium: 1808 • Magnesium: 1808 • Aluminum: 1825 • Zinc: 1746 • Iron: 2000BC • Tin: 3000BC • Copper: 3500BC • Silver: 5000BC • Gold: 5000BC

  5. Relationship between Na and K • There is a relationship between Na (Sodium) and K (Potassium) because they were both discovered in 1807 by Sir Humphrey Davy. In the periodic table these two elements are both in Group 1. Also, both of them are next to each other in the reactivity series. The most reactive metal is Potassium, the second most reactive metal is Sodium. Both of these metals also have 1 electron on the outer shell. They both have the same color as well.

  6. Relationship between Ca and Mg • Both of these metals were discovered by once again Sir Humphrey Davy in 1808, one year after the discovery of Na and K. Both of these elements were on group 2 of the periodic table and both of them are next to each other on the reactivity series. Calcium is more reactive than Mg. Both of the metals have two electrons in the outer shell.

  7. What I think… • I think that the metals that were discovered long time back are less reactive than the metals that were discovered about 200 years ago. You can tell by looking at the fourth slide that this statement is true. The older the metal the less reactive it is. Also, depending on which group it is it will have that amount of electrons in the outer shell. For example Group 1: All of the elements in this group have 1 electron in the outer shell. Group 2: All of the elements in this group have 2 electrons in the outer shell.
