What is AVID? • Elective course taken during the school day • Enroll after application process • Focus on learning organizational, study and critical thinking skills • Receive academic help from peers and college tutors • Participate in activities such as visiting college campuses. • As students progress in AVID, their self-images improve and they become academically successful leaders and role models for other students. The AVID Student Profile Students with Academic Potential Meets One or More of the Following Criteria • Average to High Test Scores • 2.0-3.5 GPA • College Potential with Support • Desire and Determination • First to Attend College • Historically Underserved in 4-year Colleges • Low Income • Special Circumstances

  11. How do I fill out my choice sheet? • Fill out your name, your student ID # • Fill out a phone number where we can reach your parents • Fill out your parents email if they have one.

  12. How do I fill out my choice sheet? • In section 1, check one of each core class: Language Arts, World Cultures, Math, and Science. • Decide with your parents if you want to take grade level core class or PreAP • In section 2, check either P.E. or Kickstart

  13. How do I fill out my choice sheet? • In section 3, you will number your elective choices 1-5. • ONE of your top TWO choices must be a fine art (art, choir, band, theatre arts).

  14. How do I fill out my choice sheet? • Print and sign your name. • Have your parent/ guardian print and sign their name. • Turn your choice sheet into your counselor by Feb. 7th!!!!

  15. Incoming 6th Grade Parent Night Cele Middle School January 28, 2014 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. In the Cafeteria Please plan to attend. We will discuss Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre AP) options and elective choices for incoming 6th graders. Elective teachers will be available with students and work samples to help you with elective choices.
