Standards • SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and TV Engineers) • ACR has adopted the SMPTE “pattern” for digital QC (how things are displayed on the monitor) • NEMA-DICOM • ACR and NAT. Electrical Manufactures Assoc. • Standard for DICOM – Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (“gray scale” display function – GSDF)

Standards Con’t • German standards institution – Image Quality Assurance in X-ray Diagnostics: Acceptance Testing for Image Display Devices (DIN 2001) • Video Electronics Standard Association (VESA) • Am. Assoc. of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) 18 measurements & observations for digital display devices

  4. Luminance Meter • Uniformity measurements of luminance response – requires a PHOTOMETER • Distance (measure light at a distance) • Near range = close proximity

  5. Digital Device QC • Uses the AAPM (Am. Assoc. of Physicists in Medicine) 18 patterns for QC tests • Geometric distortion • Reflection luminance response • Display resolution • Display noise • Should be viewed daily
