  1. Welcome to Sugarloaf’’s Reading Recovery Parent Night! We’re glad you’re here!

  2. Reading Recovery is in over 10,000 U.S. schools.

  3. A Reading Recovery program lasts about 12- 20 weeks.

  4. Lessons are every day.

  5. Each Reading Recovery lesson lasts 30 minutes.

  6. We build on what the child already knows.

  7. Reading Recovery builds students’ self-confidence.

  8. Each Reading Recovery teacher is a Reading Specialist.

  9. Each lesson is one-on-one: One teacher and one student.

  10. We use magnetic letters to make words.

  11. We teach reading by combining phonics with other skills.

  12. The child creates and writes a sentence in every lesson.

  13. A new book is introduced every day.

  14. Phonics is an important part of reading, butreading for meaning is the primary goal.

  15. 10-15 minute homework is sent home every night (even on weekends)!

  16. Students “show off” their skills by reading aloud to you at home!

  17. Pictures in books are important. Please, never, ever, cover up the pictures while your child is reading!

  18. Classroom teachers provide continuing literacy instruction.
