  1. First Grade Focus Boon Elementary Allen, Texas November 12, 2009 Week 12 Thanksgiving is Coming! We are busily preparing for our Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday - 11/18, which will be catered by Dickey’s Bar-B-Que. Please send $4 in an envelope with your child’s name on it. We will be learning about the pilgrims and their voyage to the new land. Weekly Tip For Working on Spelling Make a short rhyme for each of your spelling words. “I once took a stick and hit a brick.” Or see how many spelling words you can fit into one sentence that makes sense. STARS Collections This month first grade is collecting floor cleaning supplies for the Samaritan Inn in McKinney. We are continuing to learn new strategies to help us solve subtraction problems. Some of the strategies that we can use are: using our number line, drawing pictures, or using objects like buttons or pencils to solve the problem. • Things and Dates To Remember • Book Fair is this week • PTA meeting/Chili Cook Off, Vendor • Fair is tonight • First grade Thanksgiving Feast is next • Wednesday, 11/ 18 • Grandparents/VIP day is next Friday, • 11/20 • Check and sign agenda every day • Read 10 minutes every night • Wear class t-shirt every Wednesday • Check the first grade website for the list of books needed for our Listening To Reading station How well do you know your fabulous first grade teacher?Which first grade teacher was the Prom Queen her senior year of high school? (Last week’s answer: Mrs. Siratt can touch her nose with her tongue.)
