National Beta Club Mission & Purpose (as stated on the National Beta Club website: http://www.betaclub.org/) The National Beta Club, a student-centered organization, continually develops and nurtures individuals by providing opportunities and experiences enabling them to demonstrate the ideals of character, achievement, service and leadership in a global community. The purpose of the National Beta Club shall be to promote the ideals of character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students, to reward meritorious achievement and to encourage and assist students in continuing their education after high school. By-Laws of the Harrison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club Article I ~ Time & Place of Meetings The HHS Beta Club will meet on the first Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise indicated due to facilities/district conflict). All meetings will occur in the HHS Dining Hall. The monthly meeting will start promptly at 7:45 am or 3:35pm. It is the responsibility of each member to be prompt for and in attendance for at least one HHS Beta Club meeting every two months. A member who misses two meetings in a row will be dismissed from the club. Article II ~ Quorum A quorum of this organization shall be constituted by a majority of the membership. No action may be taken which is binding upon the membership unless a quorum is present. However, certain matters – such as, a discussion of means of taking in new members, the presentation of a program, etc. – may be carried on at a regular or special meeting without a quorum being present. Article III ~ Standards of Membership Standards of membership in the Harrison High School chapter of the National Beta Club must conform to the general features as laid down in the National Constitution; and in all cases must be approved by the executive head of the high school. The classes from which members may be drawn shall be 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. The scholastic requirement for membership in this chapter of the National Beta Club shall be a 3.60 cumulative grade point average and good discipline standing in the school. Article IV ~ Induction of Members The induction of new members into the membership of this chapter of the National Beta Club shall be one of dignity appropriate to the ideal of the organization. Any pre-induction invitation activity must be submitted and approved by the executive head of Harrison High School. It must not be of a nature to cause physical pain or mental embarrassment to the initiate. Article V ~ Loss of Membership A member of this chapter of the National Beta Club may be dropped from membership if his scholastic record falls below a 3.40 grade point average. However, no member may be dropped from membership for scholastic deficiency without being accorded a probationary period of one semester to raise his scholastic record above the minimum required for membership. The executive head of Harrison High School may drop a member from membership for moral or disciplinary reasons that are deemed by him/her to be sufficient. A member may be dropped from membership if he/she does not fulfill the minimum attendance and credit requirements as outlined in Article I (time and place of meeting) and Article VI (service project) If a member who has been dropped is later reinstated, he will not be required to pay the National Certificate fee again. If and when a member is dropped from membership, a record of this action shall be relayed to the National Office of the National Beta Club immediately. Article VI ~ Service Project As soon as possible after its activation in the Fall semester of the school year, this chapter of the Beta Club will undertake a program of service which will be of benefit to the community of Harrison High School. This project shall be decided only after consultation with, and upon approval of, the executive head of the high school. Each member of the Harrison High School Chapter of the National Beta Club will undertake their own service endeavor to complete a minimum of twenty service hours. Ten of these twenty hours must be in service to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Article VII ~ Local Dues and Assessments The local dues of this chapter of the National Beta Club shall be $10 for returning members and $20 for new members. Dues must be paid by new members before they will be considered for induction and for old members before the second meeting of the fall semester. Assessments may be made upon the membership to defray costs of special undertakings. Students who are dropped from membership will not be issued a refund of dues paid. Article VII ~ Amending the By-Laws The By-Laws of this chapter of the National Beta Club may be amended by a majority vote of the membership, provided such proposed amendment is placed before the club at its previous meeting.

Members will organize and participate in multiple fundraisers during the year. There will also be other events throughout the year that Beta Club will sponsor.
