What does it mean? • We the People of the United States = All the people of the United States • in order to form a more perfect union = in order to make things better for everyone in this country • establish justice = establish fairness and honesty • insure domestic tranquility = guarantee peace so we get along with one another • provide for the common defense = protect us from other people or countries who might try to harm us • promote general welfare = help make a good life for everyone • secure blessings of liberty = protect our rights and freedoms • to ourselves and our posterity = for ourselves and those who are born after we are • do ordain and establish = do approve of and live by
