3rd View – Application View • The application view describes how the business processes are supported by application systems (software programs). If several systems are involved, it shows the distribution of functions and data on these. • An application is understood as a logical unit according to the user. A conceivable distribution of the application to several technical systems (e.g. cluster) is not represented in the application view unless it is part of the focus of the case study. • If possible an application is presented in the 3 layer model but at least with the application layer (program logic).

4th View - The Technical View • Represents the distribution of the solution on hardware systems • Show the integration of the systems in a network or in a combination of networks • Depending on • Architecture of the information systems • Special hard and software • Network technology and security aspects
Technical View: What is described? • The sites on which the solution is operated and used • The distribution of the functions and roles on the systems • Special aspects like performance indicators of the hard and software (number of user, license model, availability) • Features of the hard and software presented in a table(name, manufacturer, performance features, version number etc.)
Technical View:What is shown in the illustration? • Computer systems as graphic symbols • Sites with names (with networks) • Network zones (only if the background of this segmentation is described in the text) • Not specified networks as a cloud (e.g. the Internet) • Transmission systems in the network with name (e.g. switch, router, firewall). • For critical connections the transmission capacity

Exercise on Technical View: “Proofed Quality” Prepare an illustration to the technical view using the following description. • The company “Proofed Quality” offers on their online shop items from all the world to its customers. • At the head quarter in Sofia the company operates an ERP system based on SAP R/3 on a application server of its own. The data of the SAP R/3 is stored in a database based on Oracle Database. The ERP system and the database are operated on separate computer systems. • The online shop is hosted at a provider called “Blackhole”. The data transmission between the ERP system and online shop is guaranteed by an encrypted connection over the Internet. • About “Blackhole” it is only known that the online shop is operated on a server farm. • Orders and new customer data are transmitted directly from the online shop. The ERP system also immediately transmits amendments to the item availability and ordering statuses to the online shop. New or changed item master data can when required be sent to the online shop.
