In the context where 40% of HIV diagnoses among MSM are recent infections and the epidemic is fueled by primary HIV infections, this initiative proposes a collective action plan. By promoting 3 months of absolute safe sex within the gay community, followed by HIV testing and counseling on negotiated safety, the aim is to reduce recent infections significantly. The three-step action plan includes raising awareness about primary HIV infections, encouraging 3 months of absolute safe sex, and advocating for HIV testing before engaging in unprotected anal intercourse. Evaluation of the results is ongoing to assess the impact of this strategy on curbing HIV transmission among MSM.

Situation MISSION POSSIBLE ● 40% of HIV diagnosis among MSM are recent infections ● MSM have unprotected anal intercourse (UAI) in networks of familiar sex partners ● 50% of HIV positiv MSM get infected by a partner with PHI ● The epidemic is driven by individuals with primary HIV infection (PHI)
Theory MISSION POSSIBLE ● A collective action of „3 Months of Absoulute Safe Sex“ in the gay community can stop the epidemic. ● After these 3 months MSM who want to have UAI should take a HIV test and get counselling about negotiated safety and correct risk-management. ● As a result, the rate of recent infections among MSM with new HIV diagnosis should drop significantly.
Action in 3 Steps MISSION POSSIBLE 1) 1) Information about PHI 2) 2) 3 MONTHS ABSOLUTELY SAFE 3) Get tested if you want to have UAI 3) Results: Evaluation in progress
