Glossary • Turbidity-The cloudiness or haziness of a fluid caused by individual particles. • Brackish-Salt water and fresh water is put together. some what salty. • Evaporation-Process by which water is converted from its liquid form to the vapor form. • Condensation-The change of water from its gas form (water vapor) into liquid water. • Precipitation-rain, sleet, hail, snow and other forms of water falling from the sky. The condensation of a solid from a solution during a chemical reaction. • Pollution-The introduction of contaminants into an environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem. • The Water Cycle-Known as the hydrologic cycle, describes the continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the earth. • Transpiration-The evaporation of water from the aerial parts of plants, especially leaves but also stems, flowers, and roots. • Acid Rain- is a popular term referring to the deposition of wet (rain, snow, sleet, fog and cloud water, dew) and dry (acidifying particles and gases) acidic components. A more accurate term is “acid deposition”.
