  1. Workshop on the Use of Ethernet as a FieldbusCERN, 28 September 2001 • Use of Ethernet in the control systems of the cooling and ventilation infrastructure • D. Blanc, M. C. Morodo • ST-CV

  2. Openness To integrate the existing heterogeneous environment ---> To cope with the geographical dispersion of the CV processes ---> Networking A fully industrial standard control system architecture is taken as a reference Industrial approach For the first time, a unique network solution at all the control system layers Ethernet ST-CV Control Systems Communication requirements for the LHC era: The strategy: Ethernet The retained control system solution -1998-: Workshop on the use of Ethernet as a fieldbus, 28 Sept 2001 D. Blanc, M. C. Morodo ST-CV

  3. Technical infrastructure Experiments Process data archiving Web access Data archiving and web-based supervisory tools Layer 4: Process data management CERN technical data monitoring Reference Data Base Layer 3: TCR remote supervision Ethernet TCP/IP SCADA: Wizcon Process control and supervision on Windows NT Technical Data Server Layer 2: Local supervision PLC: Schneider / Siemens FIP Norm / Profibus DP Process regulation Layer 1: Acquisition and regulation Other non-supporting-Ethernet Controllers & Distributed Periphery Control rooms Accelerators Workshop on the use of Ethernet as a fieldbus, 28 Sept 2001 D. Blanc, M. C. Morodo ST-CV

  4. Implementation: Present status Reference Projects: LHC • Ventilation of surface buildings • Ventilation of ATLAS & CMS experimental zones • Cooling of ATLAS & CMS experimental zones  30 hosts  30 hosts  30 hosts In progress (about 50 %) Ready to start In preparation SPS • Cooling  25 hosts Completed PS • Cooling  15 hosts Starting LEP Tunnel • Ventilation  20 hosts In preparation Collaborations with Experiments: • TOF, ATLAS, CMS, ALICE Workshop on the use of Ethernet as a fieldbus, 28 Sept 2001 D. Blanc, M. C. Morodo ST-CV

  5. Conclusions Performance Evaluation: • CERN Technical (Service) network has shown to fit the ST-CV control system communication requirements • Very high availability and reliability • Network installation, administration and maintenance services Future Evolution: • Industrial control systems’ manufacturers are increasing their development on Ethernet TCP/IP • The use of Ethernet shall be extended even more • Field communication for distributed periphery • Industrial fieldbuses (Profibus DP, FIP norm) keep their leadership for some more years yet Thank you Workshop on the use of Ethernet as a fieldbus, 28 Sept 2001 D. Blanc, M. C. Morodo ST-CV
