  2. Tennis- Rules There are two ways to play tennis. Singles Game (one vs. one) Doubles Game (two vs. two) • To start the game, either a coin is tossed or the racket is spun. • The winner chooses (or may require their opponent to choose) to be the server or reciever and chooses which side of the net they will play on.

  3. Doubles Game • The outside boundary lines enclosing the alleys are used. • Order of Service (Rotation) • A/B are partners against C/D • First game A serves, second game C, third B, and fourth D. (Then it starts over with A etc.) • This rotation is maintained throughout the set. (A set is the winning of 6 games) B C <----- Baseline A D Alley ------------->

  4. Service Rules • Delivery- • Both feet must be behind the baseline and inside the center mark and the singles sideline. • Must toss the ball into the air and hit it before it hits the ground. • Must serve diagonally across the court. • Serve starts in the right hand court in every game • Server has 2 chances to get the serve in on each point. • Must call out the score before you serve (server’s score announced first). Diagonal Serve C A

  5. Service Faults • Foot Fault -------------> • Stepping over the baseline • Server misses the ball when attempting to hit it. • The ball hits on the server’s side of the net. • Two faults on the same point is called Double Fault • Server loses the point

  6. Let • The ball tips the net and falls over into the proper service court. • The reciever is not ready. • When a let is called, the point is replayed.
