  2. The Mechanism of Intolerance • Many nontolerated groups such as: • Homosexuals • Ex-Convict • Foreigner • Communist • Aids Patient • Although Puerto Rico is a small island, the intolerance level of many people of different race or religion is high.

The Regional Nature Of Intolerance In Puerto Rico • Dominican Community • Metropolitan zone of San Juan ( 64% greater) • West of San Juan (almost non existent) • Intolerance of people of different races or religions is higher in the highlands than the coast. • Belief that the lack of highways and roads, the absence of black people in the central highlands and the late arrival of Protestant churhces contribute to poor integration between different people of San Juan.

Conclusion • Intolerance in the Puerto Rican society threaten the development of the democracy. • Believed solution: alert people who are at most risk of intolerance so that they start taking measures to protect their political rights as well as their lifestyles. • Reform the educational system make people more aware of their rights and to question social exclusion. Stand up for what they deserve.
