  2. Geography • Greece is a peninsula with many smaller peninsulas • Greece is also covered in mountains which makes travel longer than it would take on flat ground • Greece contains the cities of Aetolia, Locris, Acarnania

  3. Geography continued • Arcadia is a plateau over mountain ranges Greece is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea contains 1400 islands. Mild winters, long hot and dry summers the sea allowed them to trade with other civilizations around the continent

  4. Social structure • Upper class: do not trade • Middle class: free men of foreign birth • Lower class: would have been slaves • Slaves: Mostly prisoners of war, considered barbarians • Currency was called talents • Land owners needed about 20 talents to own land
