The Fawcett Society marks Equal Pay Day – the point in the year when women in effect ‘stop earning’ because of the 15 per cent gender pay gap. • Benefit cuts have been found to hit women twice as hard as men • Women working in the public sector experience a smaller gap than those working in the private sector. • With a million public sector jobs set to go in the next few years, the average gap in pay could widen as women take up lower paid work in the private sector • Two thirds of those earning minimum wage or below are women Equal Pay Day – 7th November 2013
