Topics to be addressed • Responsibility for understanding the specific program standards • Format for Program Standard Reports • Addressing areas of concern or when a standard is not met. • MS and SS Intern programs—Early Completion Option and how this impacts the findings on program standards. • MS, SS, and Ed Sp Intern programs—the 120 hour Pre-service requirement and how this is reviewed at the site visit • How to review programs that are transitioning from one set of standards to another • Utilizing Biennial Reports in the review of programs
Program Standards • Responsible for familiarity with the set of program standards you are assigned to focus on • Visit the Program Standard web page--http://www.ctc.ca.gov/educator-prep/STDS-prep-program.html • Flash Drive will have an electronic copy of the standards • CTC Consultant is the resource on interpretation of program standards
Standards under Transition • Multiple and Single Subject • Standards 7A, 7B, and 8B(d) • Standards 19-21 • Required Elements format • Bilingual Teaching Authorization • Special Education • School Nurse • Career Technical Education (Voc Ed) • Clear Credential (MS/SS) Programs
The response to each Program is about a page in length. Use Times New Roman, 12 pt., 1 inch margins, single spaced. Team members must be able to corroborate their findings with multiple sources of evidence. Statements made in the Team Report must be tied to the standard and supported by evidence. Report Format
Report writing • No personal opinions. • No identification of individuals—either positive or negative. • Grammar and spelling do count. • This is a public, professional document. • In identifying groups of people, use candidates for those in preparation programs and students for those in K-12 schools.
Format for the Report • Reports are program specific. • Summarize the evidence that led to the team decision. • State if the Standard is Met, Met with Concerns, or Not Met. • Identify the specific program standard and what part of the standard is a concern or not being met by the program. Sample Report
MS and SS Intern Programs • Early Completion Option • All MS and SS Intern programs must offer an ECO in the areas of MS, SS-English, SS-Math, and SS-Science IF the program offers the internship for the credential. • Check on the advising process and how many individuals have elected ECO. • May not have any candidates who have elected ECO…that is ok ECO Requirements
MS, SS, and Ed Sp Intern Programs • 120 hour Pre-Service • Required prior to the issuance of the Intern Credential. • Team members focusing on one of these programs should understand the Pre-service component for the program and the tracking process to ensure that all individuals recommended for the Intern Credential have completed the 120 pre-service (June 2008).
Programs Transitioning • Discuss with your CTC Consultant which standards the institution has decided to be reviewed against if you are assigned to one of the credential areas that is in transition. • Lean toward the future—the concepts and requirements in the newly adopted standards while holding to quality preparation of candidates.
Utilizing Biennial Reports • The Visits in Spring 2009 are the first set to have submitted Biennial Reports. • Biennial Reports have identified key assessments used to assess candidate competency. Sample Biennial Report Feedback
