  2. What is Kombucha? • Slightly fizzy and sweet fermented tea • Origins rooted in China 2,000 years ago • “Immortal health elixir” • Recently gained popularity in the West • Sold at health food stores and restaurants nationwide

  3. How is it made? • Simple fermentation process combining black tea, sugar, yeast, and bacteria - also known as a Scoby • The combined ingredients sit in a dark and cool area for 7 to 14 days to ferment and grow

  4. Buy it or make it • Kombucha can be made at home or purchased at various health food stores and restaurants • $4 per bottle (estimate) • Many people purchase growlers and re-fill in certain stores • For smaller cost, Kombucha can be brewed at home

  5. Home Brewing • Many devoted Kombucha drinkers brew their own • Saves money • Process of trial and error • Eventually, each brewer establishes their perfect blend and flavor combinations

  6. Why is it good for you? • Boosts metabolism • Cancer prevention • Natural detoxifier • Helps joint pain • Billions of probiotics per bottle • Aids digestion • Helps acne, brightens complexion • Increases energy levels

Potential risks of drinking Kombucha • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not drink Kombucha due to the small amount of alcohol from the natural fermentation of sugar • Kombucha should not be consumed in mass amounts • If made incorrectly, certain molds and fungi’s can form and cause illnesses and diseases
