About the Program • Quality Training was added to the responsibilities of the BPA Office after the last ASLS reorganization. • This aligned with training that the BPA Office was already conducting on the planning process and on evaluation/measurement • Decision was made to offer a comprehensive program to complete a series of training sessions and receive a certificate following completion.
Previously Offered Quality Classes • Effective Group Facilitation (2006) • Running Effective Meetings (2007) • Introduction to Quality Tools (SP09) • AQIP/Baldrige (FA09) • Attendees of these classes will be grandfathered into the current certificate program and will receive credit for having attended. • You will be notified via email spring semester 2010 what classes you have already attended
Benefits to receiving Certificate • Learning a highly applicable and useful skill set for use in a variety of settings • Use of the techniques lead to more collegial work environment, makes problem-solving and decision-making easier • Skills learned can be used on campus-wide committee work and initiatives • Aligns with campus-wide goals for faculty/staff to be “lifelong learners”
Details about earning a certificate • OK to attend classes without wanting to earn a certificate • Classes are free to attend for all UW-Stout faculty/staff • Supervisor permission is necessary to attend during regular work hours • When six classes are completed, participant can apply to obtain a certificate. • Classes will be held twice yearly in a three-year cycle. • Participants can start at any time
Class Details • Classes will be three hours in length, for a total of 18 total contact hours to earn a certificate. • When six classes have been completed, participant will submit online application for certification and submit to BPA. • BPA will verify information and award certificate.
Classes Offered • Facilitation/Running Effective meetings • First offered: 2007 • Help participants plan, organize, facilitate, conduct, and contribute to more efficient and effective meetings. • Topics include • building an agenda, • how to evoke participation and commitment from group members, • techniques for reaching consensus on important group decisions, strategies for dealing with hidden agendas • assessing/measuring meeting quality.
Classes Offered • AQIP/Baldrige • First offered FA09 • Provost’s Office • Overview of the AQIP/Baldrige values and criteria and how we apply the values and criteria at UW-Stout. • The course will also cover the AQIP Accreditation Process, including Action Projects, Quality Check-up visit and Systems Portfolio. • Assessment of academic programs, the general education program and campus support units.
Classes Offered • Evaluation and Measurement • SP10 – April 21, 2010 • Conducted by: Dr. Meridith Wentz • This course will include: • an overview of different types of evaluation methodologies, • when these methodologies should be used, and • how to develop basic evaluation instruments. • Participants will have an opportunity to practice developing an evaluation instrument.
Classes Offered: • Using Quality Tools • FA10 • Conducted by: Dennis Shaw and Donna Weber • This course will introduce the Seven Basic Quality Tools and allow for hands-on work in small groups using these methods for practice with typical workplace scenarios.
Classes Offered: • Project Management • SP11 • Conducted by: TBD • This course will provide ways to develop and manage the various parts of a project, including requirements, costs, and schedules. • Tools for effective project management will be discussed, • Communication between team members and other stakeholders in the project.
Classes Offered: • Planning • FA11 • Conducted by: Dr. Meridith Wentz • This course will provide an orientation to UW-Stout’s planning system, including: • a comprehensive overview of UW-Stout’s planning model and planning process. • It will also include information about how individuals can provide input to the planning process, • as well as information about how departments can engage in their own planning process.
Classes Offered • LEAN – 5S Process • SP12 • Conducted by: TBD • This course will provide an overview of 5S, • how it can benefit not only department workspace but personal workspace as well. • Each category (sort, set-in-order, shine, standardize and sustain) will be explained, • and participants will receive a plan for how to get started, things to avoid, and other advice for implementation.
Classes Offered • LEAN – Process mapping and Value Stream Mapping • FA12 • Conducted by: TBD • The differences between the two methods and applications of the two methods will be discussed. • Learn how to map a business process • Identify weaknesses and problem areas of the process • Learn about possible problem resolutions
Additional Information • As classes are added or subtracted from this list, participants will be able to select which six classes they wish to take to receive certification. • Upcoming class schedule is subject to change depending on instructor availability
