Overview In this lesson, the pupils will do subtraction methods with 2 – digit numbers without regrouping.
Subject: Mathematics - I Topic: Subtraction: Subtraction 2-digit numbers without regrouping. Time: 6o minutes Period of Teaching: 1 day
Materials/ Teaching Aids • Power Point • Youtube • Worksheets • Number Cards or Workmat
Objectives At the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Subtract 2-digit numbers without regrouping. 2. Work independently.
Preparation Prepare the place value chart, number cards, worksheets, base ten blocks for the lesson.
Prerequisite Skills & Concept Children should be proficient in subtracting 1 – digit numbers accurately. Have also know the place value of a number.
Procedures • Tune-in the class with a video in Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dyJSWWQGoY From the video, pupils will recall their knowledge about subtraction basic concept.
2. Let the pupils watch the links to help them understand the process of subtraction with 2- digit numbers without regrouping. http://www.kidsolr.com/math/math.html
3. Introduce the lesson by giving examples of two-digit numbers and putting concrete or block tens on the overhead projector.
3. The teacher will show how to work out two-digit subtraction problems by using the number cubes and chip manipulative materials. 4. Using the overhead projector the teacher will make a subtraction problem by rolling the
number cubes to make a two-digit number and then a one-digit number. The teacher will write the problem on the board and then use the block tens manipulative to work out the problem.
5. The teacher will ask volunteers to make subtraction problems by using the number cubes. The teacher will ask volunteers to work out the problem by using the block tens manipulative. The teacher will ask a volunteer to tell how to work out the problem.
6. Activities: Guided Practice: • The teacher will divide the students into groups to make subtraction problems together by using the number cubes, • The students will also work out the problem using the block tens manipulatives in their groups.
Independent Practice: • The teacher will give each student a sheet of two-digit subtraction problems. • The students will work out the problems using the chip manipulatives.
