Age-Friendly Community LG grants • NSW Ageing Strategy 2012 • Create Age-Friendly local communities – grants program • $600,000 in grants to 26 councils for: • 21 to regional and rural councils (two joint projects) and 8 to metropolitan councils (1 joint project) • Completed by July 2014 LGNSW – MAV Age Friendly Communities October 2014

Other grants - Creative Ageing 2014 • Funded by the NSW Office for Ageing, FACS • Grants of up to $4000 to individual councils for programs or activities that increase the number of older people participating in creative activities. • Projects are to be completed by 31 January 2015. • Applications closed COB Monday 25 August 2014 LGNSW – MAV Age Friendly Communities October 2014

Disability Inclusion Act 2014 The Disability Inclusion Act protects the rights of people with disability and promotes community inclusion now and into the future. • 4 year ongoing NSW State Disability Inclusion Plan (DIAP) • Assented by NSW parliament 26 August Guidelines for Action Plans being developed LGNSW – MAV Age Friendly Communities October 2014

Review found: • Almost all councils (97%) are planning for Inclusive and Accessible Communities. • Most councils engage people with disability and include strategies relevant to people with disability in their planning documents. • Differences in planning are associated with geographic location, regional variability in resources, demographics and community lifestyle. North Coast Ageing Strategy • Released June 2014 • Aim to identify population ageing issues “Work with local councils, community organisations and other stakeholders to develop a ‘North Coast Ageing Strategy’ that caters for the region’s expected increase in older residents over the next 25 years”.
