  3. In 1925 the law said that only the bible version of creation may be taught in Tennessee. The science of evolution was prohibited from being taught….until Mr. Scopes taught “the lesson”… Evolution VS the Bible

  4. ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) offered to pay expenses of a trial of anyone that would teach evolution. John Scopes (24 year old substitute) did. John Scopes- Substitute Teacher

  5. Clarence Darrow was the attorney defending Scopes • Scopes was convicted and fined $100. Outcome of the Trial

  6. After WWI, Americans were scared of a communist revolution. (Communists were called REDS) • Public fear heightened by the discovery of mail bombs sent to government officials . Why? Red Scare

  7. Two men were murdered during a robbery of a shoe company. These Italians were found guilty of robbery, and of murder, but didn’t do it! Why? Sacco and Vanzetti

  8. He proposed a “Back to Africa” movement for African Americans… Why?? Marcus Garvey

  9. 5 million members in the 1920’s…believed in white supremacy. Why?? Ku Klux Klan
