There are five (5) steps in the Youth Basic Firearms Safety Training program. • Step 1 - classroom training only - covers basic safety, parts, operation, ammunition and shooting fundamentals. • Step 2 - classroom and range time – focus on airsoft firearms only. Firearms safety and operation. • Step 3 – range time – demonstrate knowledge learned in Step 1 and Step 2. Airsoft firearms only shooting scenarios • Step 4 – Classroom and range time – introduction to real firearms. Live fire under the direction of an LSSA safety officer. • Step 5 – range time – youth will participate in a LSSA shooting match. • Students must pass a test at each step to advance.

  3. STEP 3 - Airsoft shooting • Requirements to attend this class • Minimum age is 12 years. Student must demonstrate maturity in order to take this class • Students shall be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and be under the supervision of an LSSA safety officer at all times during range exercises. • Be a graduate of LSSA Step 1 & 2 programs

  4. STEP 3 Review Firearm Safety • Review the 4 cardinal rules of firearm safety • Safety Equipment – Eye and Hearing Protection • Review range commands

  5. STEP 3 – Introduction to CoF • Course of Fire (COF) – a scenario with threat and non-threat targets that are engaged as defined in the instructions. • CoF simulates real life situations or are designed to test the skill of the shooter.

  6. STEP 3 – CoF #1 • From P1 engagetargets with oneshot each left to right • From P1 engage targets with one shoteach right to left • From P1 engagetargets with two shotseach in any order.

  7. STEP 3 – CoF #2 • From P1 engage theclay, popper and platethen move to P2 andengage the threattarget until neutralized.

  8. STEP 3 – CoF #3 • Open shooting.

  9. STEP 3 - Course of Fire • This completes Step 3 of the LSSA Youth Shooting Program. Congratulations for completing this course of instruction. • Step 4 will build on the fundamentals learned in Steps 1,2 & 3. This step will include range time shooting real firearms.
