Key facts • Approximately 9,000 village halls in England with a total asset value of more than £2.1 billion • Rural communities have traditionally owned and managed the assets in their community • Rural communities respond to local need often co-locating services with existing village halls • The key to the survival of England’s village halls are the volunteer management committees
What and Why? Rural halls provide: • a centre for arts, sports and other social activity • education, health and retail services Which leads to: • a viable sustainable hall that benefits the community
Support Support is provided for village halls by the Rural Community Action Network by: • Providing quality information, advice and support • Building relationships with parish councils and public service partners • Collating research that provides detailed data and information on issues affecting halls
Funding • Lottery and other national, regional and county funding programmes • Local charitable trusts • Parish Council • Loans – Rural Community Buildings Loan Fund
