  1. OBJECTIVE… To use media clips and pictures to understand what is meant by GLOBAL WARMING and what can be done to help this issue.

  2. OUTCOMES… Grade C All will be able to define the term ‘Global Warming’ and describe its causes and effects. Grade B Most will be able to explain what might be done to tackle the issue of global warming. Grade A/A* Some will be able to evaluate who has the most responsibility for tackling global warming. Your GOALS for the end of this lesson are…

  3. What is GLOBAL WARMING?… Use the following clip and what you know already to answer the following… What is GLOBAL WARMING? What is the GREENHOUSE EFFECT? What causes GLOBAL WARMING? What are the effects of GLOBAL WARMING?

  5. Use the following pictures to add some detail to your answers… Decide if the picture is a CAUSE or EFFECT of global warming Add this information to your answers…

  8. EFFECT As polar regions warm up, the ice melts increasing the sea level. This means many places will disappear as the seas covers up the land.

  10. EFFECT As some places get hotter there will be more DROUGHT. As other places get hotter their will be more rain, causing FLOODS. Both can lead to poverty and famine.

  13. EFFECT Some animals and plants will die out because they will not be able to adapt to the changing climate.

What can be done to HELP?… Think – Pair – Share… List some ideas for the following three categories… • Don’t waste energy– walk instead of using the car, turn off lights etc.. • Give money to environmental charities such as Greenpeace What can INDIVIDUALS do to help? • Research the causes and consequences of Global Warming • Use research information to find preventions and cures. What can SCIENTISTS do to help? • Join communities and even countries together to help tackle the problem. • Make stricter laws that protect the wnvironment What can the GOVERNMENT do to help?

  18. Whose responsibility ?… The advertisement said ‘WE NEED TO ACT’... Who do you think has the MOST RESPONSIBILITY for tackling the problem of GLOBAL WARMING? The general public? Religious people? The government? Scientists?
