  1. Science Testing Updates Presented by Nadine McBride NCDPI

  2. EOG Science Grades 5 and 8 • Operational assessments based on 2004 Standard Course of Study (SCS). Grade 5 measures the grade 5 standards and grade 8 measures the grade 8 standards. • There has been no decision made at the Federal or local level if the scores will be used in AYP or the ABCs. More information coming with the reauthorization of NCLB.

  3. EOG Science Grades 5 and 8 cont. • The EOGs for Grades 5 and 8 will contain 80 items for SY 2007-2008. • Tests are “virtually untimed,” with a maximum time limit of 4 hours.

  4. EOG Science Grades 5 and 8 cont. • Scores will be delayed for Spring 2008 to evaluate the test performance with less items and confirm the cut score. • Web samples and Test Information Sheets are available at: http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/accountability/testing/eog/science/.

  5. NCEXTEND2 EOG Science Grades 5 and 8 • The NCEXT2 EOGs for Grades 5 and 8 will contain 60 items for SY 2007-2008. • Scores were NOT reported for SY 2006-2007 due to psychometric reasons. • Web samples are available at: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/testing/eog/sampleitems/science

  6. EOG Science Materials • Materials • Grade 5 • Four-function calculators • Grade 8 • Four-function calculators with square root function, yx, π(pi), and algebraic logic • Periodic Table

  7. EOC Science • Operational assessments based on 2004 Standard Course of Study (SCS). • Physics will be offered ONLY online, while schools will have the option of online or paper for all other EOCs. Technical requirements can be found at http://cuacs8.mck.ncsu.edu/nctest/.

  8. EOC Science Cont. • Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science contain 80 items. • Physics contain 84 items (including four interactive items). • Tests are “virtually untimed,” with a maximum time limit of 4 hours.

  9. EOC Science Cont. • Winter/Fall results were delayed due to interim standard setting at the end of January.
