  7. Summary When dividing by powers of 10, the number gets smaller, so shift the decimal to the left the same number of places as the exponent in the power of 10. Fill in the blank places behind the decimal with zeros and add a zero to the left of the decimal if there is no other digit to the left of the decimal.
