  2. Graduation requirements • To graduate students must meet the requirements in two areas • Credits- students must earn credits (by passing classes) • Tests- students must meet standard on state exams

  3. Changes to requirements • This presentation will focus on the credits you must earn to graduate • Don’t forget if you take STAAR test that your performance on these exams also affect these grades!

  4. EARNING CREDITS • Because graduation requirements have gone through changes recently, there are 3 sets of graduation requirements. • The plan a student follows is based on the year the student ENTERED 9th grade • Most graduation plans are identical • The differences lie in • Electives • Technology • Physical Education • Health

  5. Graduation requirements • Entered 9th grade 2009-2010 (Current seniors) • Entered 9th grade 2010-2011 or 2011-2012 (Current juniors and sophomores) • Entered 9th grade 2012-2013 (current freshmen)

  6. Credits • Students must earn 26 credits to graduate • Typically you earn half a credit for each semester (semester A and semester B) • To earn credit, the average must be equal to or greater than 70. • Each semester, the average is derived from your report card grades and final exam (Freshmen and Sophomores, STAAR EOC will count for 15% of this average)

  7. CORE CLASSES = 16 credits total

  8. Other Requirements= 3.5 credits LOTE means Language Other Than English (Spanish or French)

  9. Graduation Requirements • The rest of the graduation requirements vary by the grade level you are in

  10. Physical Education • Seniors require 1.5 credits • Freshmen, sophomores and juniors require 1 credit

  11. Technology • Seniors, juniors and sophomore require 1 credit to graduation • Freshmen require 0 credits in technology to graduate

  12. Health • Seniors, juniors, and sophomores require 0.5 (one half) credit in health to graduate • Freshmen require 0 credits in health to graduate

  13. Electives • Seniors require 3.5 elective credits to graduate • Sophomores and juniors require 4 elective credits to graduate • Freshmen require 5.5 elective credits to graduate
