  2. From NHA to NHL • The National Hockey Association (NHA) was actually from Canada, not the USA • NHA switched to NHL when their were financial disputes • 3 teams from the NHA stayed for the NHL, and 1 joined • Canadians • Wonderers • Senators • Arenas (joined; now the Maple Leafs)

  3. The NHL • The National Hockey League (NHL) was formed on November 26, 1917 • In Montreal, Quebec, Canada The first NHL team Montreal Canadians

  4. More Disputes • financial disputes almost ended the NHL • The Wonders and the Senators had to drop out of the league • Not enough money • Canadians and Arenas stayed • just played each other for 2 years

The Original 6 • United States expansion teams joined the NHL • The new NHL consisted of 6 teams known as the Original 6 • Montreal Canadians (joined 1917) • Toronto Maple Leafs (joined 1917) • Boston Bruins (joined 1924) • Detroit Red Wings (joined 1926) • Chicago Black Hawks (joined 1926) • New York Rangers (joined 1926)

  6. NHL today • NHL now contains 30 teams • 24 United States • 6 Canada

  7. The NHL’s change over time • Other things besides living organisms can have evolution • The NHL went from 5 teams in the NHA to 4 teams in the NHL to 6 teams to 30 • NHL is a good example to show how money plays a big role in evolution of things besides living organisms &

  8. NHL today • NHL now much more popular then it used to be • NHL got me into hockey • Gets many more kids involved in hockey Just kidding
