Origin of NCWP • Recognizing the significant contribution of women in police forces, BPR&D initiated the idea to organise National Conference for women police personnel of all ranks. • Springboard Programme • 4 Regional Conferences – Calcutta, Hyderabad, Phillaur, Bhopal • 1st National Conference – Delhi - 2002

  4. 1st National Conference - Delhi • 2002 – BPR&D invites 35 States & UTs to submit status papers on gender profile, Recruitment, Personnel and professional development, perception and attitude. • Theme – FORGING A NEW FUTURE. • Participation by all ranks of Women in Police. • Home Minister addresses the participants at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

  6. 2nd National Conference – Mussoorie, Uttarakhand • July 2005 • Theme – MAINSTREAMING OF WOMEN IN POLICE. • Increase their representation. • Formulation of suitable recruitment procedures with suitably differentiated physical standards, common cadre, training needs analysis, focus on ongoing research and data collection. • Gender audit and Gender budgeting. • Issues relating to Sexual harassment at the work place.

  7. 3rd National Conference – Punchkula, Haryana • March 2009 • Theme – OPTIMISING THE CONTRIBUTION OF WOMEN IN POLICE. • Recommendations • National Police Mission to include the subject Women in Police • An annual State /CPO level conference • Increase in Numbers, Interface with community, Creche – Posting at Police Stations

ISSUES RELATED TO WOMEN POLICE MONITORED BY BPR&D • All data relating to representation of Women in CAPFs, State Police UTs being compiled and circulated to MHA / Heads of CPOs / States / UTs. • Director (SU) a lady officer is in charge of collection, collation, compilation, monitoring in BPR&D.

REST ROOM IN PS FOR WOMEN POLICE PERSONNEL • BPR&D Recommendation of basic facilities and living area specification approved . • Women Rest Room facilities for women staff approved. • Incorporated in the Model Plans for Police buildings in States throughout the country in the meeting at Bangalore on 18/07/2005 of CPWD, user departments and private architects
