College Applications • Students should adhere to their college’s application checklists & deadlines • Transcript Requests • Must turn in College Application Checklist (green sheet) and submit Transcript order through Parchment.com • Parchment – online transcript ordering for colleges • MUST be ordered by student (not parent account or Counselor) • Order Transcript to specific college, unless CommonApp or fee assessed • CommonApp– everything must be requested to CA through Parchment, not individual colleges • Fee assessed – do not proceed and pay – you must inform Mrs. Huffman and provide an addressed, stamped envelope (8x10) for her to mail. • Request from Mrs. Huffman if not on Parchment (jobs, some colleges, unofficial, scholarships) • Students MUST give 2 weeks for us to process requests for Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation. • If December 15 through January 15 deadline, MUST turn in all required materials by December 1 due to holiday, inclement weather, and high volume.
Paying for College • FAFSA – FREE Application for Federal Student Aid • www.fafsa.ed.gov • Opens October 1, based on taxes filed in April 2019 for 2020-21 College School Year • Indicate colleges you’re applying to as you fill out FAFSA so they can share info to develop Financial Aid Award package • Necessary for Financial Aid awards; fill out even if you think you make too much money or don’t qualify – helps with some scholarships too • Financial Aid Workshop @ HVHS October 8 @ 6:00pm • VWCC FAFSA Fill-Out Events • Financial Aid • If there is an extenuating circumstance (ie: loss of job) since your 2019 taxes were filed, you can request that your child’s college submit a waiver on their behalf indicating this change has occurred; may help get necessary financial aid money • Scholarships • Check our website regularly: GHS website
