Personification • An animal giving Human-like Qualities or an object giving life –like qualities. The sun smiling down or the boat hugged the shore.
Alliteration • Consonant sounds repeated at the beginning of a word. • Ron rock his rock and roll band.
Assonance • repeating VOWEL sounds in a line or lines of poetry.
Hyperbole • Exaggeration often used for emphasis • A man like million times harder.
Onomatopoeia • Words that imitate the sounds they are naming. • Like Pop,bang,Buzz,Ding,crash
Metaphor • A direct comparison of two unlike things.
Simile • A comparison of two things using “like or “as”.
Imagery • Most images are visual, but they can also appeal to the senses of sound,touch,taste, or smell
Idiom • An expression where the literal meaning of the words is not the meaning of the expression. It means something other what it actually says.(It’s raining cats and dog)
Consonance • The repeated consonant sounds can be anywhere in the words.
