  4. Theme # 1: Location Where is it??

  5. Location: • There are two types of LOCATION!! • Absolute • Relative

  6. Absolute Location: • Absolute Location is found by using… • Two specific line types • Latitude • Longitude

  7. Absolute Location: • Latitude Lines -also known as parallels Latitude lines are drawn from: East to West Latitude lines measure: North to South

  8. Absolute Location: • The Major Line of LATITUDE is the: • Equator • It splits the Earth into: • the Northern and Southern Hemispheres

  9. Define Hemisphere: • Half of a globe (in our case the Earth)

  10. Absolute Location: • Longitude Lines -also known as Meridians Longitude lines are drawn from: North to South Longitude lines measure: East to West

  11. Absolute Location: • The Major Line of LONGITUDE is the: • Prime Meridian • It splits the Earth into: • the Eastern and Western Hemispheres

  12. Relative Location: • Where an area is depending on where another area is! • For example: The Galleria Mall is across the street from the WP Public Library.

  14. Movement: • Movement describes how… • How people in one area contact people in other areas.

  15. Movement: • What can move?? GOODS PEOPLE AND THEIR PERSONAL STUFF MONEY IDEAS

  17. Theme # 3: Region • How is this place like other places? • How is it different?

  18. Region: • Areas that have something in common. • Regions can be: BIG or small

  19. Region: • A region can be described by its physical features. • For example: In the Sahara Desert region in Northern Africa, many people value water.

  20. Region: • A region can also be described by its human features. • For example: Most people in the Middle East region speak Arabic.

  21. Theme # 4: Place What is it like there?

  22. Place: • You can describe a place by its physical features and human features. What place (state) is this?

  23. Place: Where is this “place”? Can you pick out the physical features? Can you pick out the human features?

  24. Human/Environment Interaction: • How do we interact with our environment? • Who lives there and what do they do?

  25. HEI: Human/Environment Interaction explains how people use and change their environment. What humans do to nature and what nature can do to humans.

  26. Does the environment affect where we do these activities?
