Best Practices • What part is a science? • What part is an art? • POCA RAP?
Role Expectations • Agree or Disagree? Why? • Good health • Psychologically stable • Invested in the community (e.g. own a home) • Solid preparation (including pedagogy) • US citizenship • Socially acceptable use of leisure time • Ethical character

Discuss • Which models will you use? • When will you use them? • Which do you think will become the most important in your future classroom? • What organization roles do teachers have? • What leadership roles do teachers have?
Reflection • What does it mean? • Why is it important? • When should you do it? • How should you do it? • Why do so many teachers leave out this part of teaching? • What does it do to the growth of the teacher if it is left out?
Stages of Teacher Deveolpment • Survivial • Teaching to the situation • Teaching for student results • Dependent on perspective and responsibility (who’s is it?) • Problem in class = Problem with teaching
Safeguards • What can you do to help keep all of these “parts and pieces” to the art and science of teaching safe? • How can you safeguard against forgetting one or not implementing it? • Why is thinking of a safeguard important?
Review • Can you give one example of a teacher’s: • Best practice? • Role expectation? • Challenges? • Goal? • Effectiveness? • Authentic relationships? • Democratic and socially just classroom? • Knowledge base (what 3 prongs are needed?)? • “Jobs?” • Ways/models to use? • Reflection?
