Does your program feel welcoming to all families? • “I feel welcome here…everything says that we belong, that we are part of the family.” • What messages does your program space send to families? • Are there spaces for families to gather comfortably to talk? • Do your classrooms display welcoming images of diverse families? • Do your classrooms offer information, documentation and displays that are interesting to families as well as to children? • Are there opportunities for families to get involved and share decision making?

Creating a Family-Friendly Climate • Find Creating a Family-Friendly Climate in your binder materials for Learning Session 4. • Take 5 or 10 minutes to review the best practices listed and note the ones you already do and the ones you would like to do. • Discuss as a table group. Were there any best practices that were new to you? Share ideas for putting them into practice. • Choose someone at your table to report out some of your ideas for implementing best practices.
