Areas outside of EU competence • Drug prevention (education, community programmes, media campaigns) • Provision of treatment services • Scheduling of illicit drugs
BUT….. • The biggest impact of last EU Drug Strategy was its’ impact of promoting harm reduction • Investment in drug prevention • Softly shaping national policies
How we work with the European Union Institutions • Worked on paper for the Civil Society Forum on Drugs to be presented to the European Commission • Presented findings from Civil Society on behalf of entire forum alongside Correlation Network to all Member States and Danish Presidency • One of two NGO’s chosen to be invited to take part in EC Expert Seminars on Psychoactive Substances • Sub-group leader for one Civil Society Forum Workgroup • Responded to internal stakeholder consultation on next EU Drug Strategy and public consultation
