The Leeds Curriculum What can you expect from a Leeds degree? • Exposure to research from day one: • teaching informed by research excellence • acquisition of research skills • practice in applying research skills and reflecting on the benefit • Opportunity to design and direct independent research in final year • Courses which reflect the importance of employability, global and cultural insight and ethics and responsibility in relation to the discipline [schools to provide egs from AHCs] • Abroad education which will challenge you to think about things in different ways and from different perspectives

The Leeds Curriculum • What does a broader education provide? • A chance for you to explore the diversity of learning opportunities which a university the size of Leeds has to offer • Space for you to extend your personal and professional skills in waysrelevant to your future career: including languages/IT/communication/enterprise • A stimulus to intellectual breadth, flexibility, confidence – competencies employers tell us they want • A fresh perspective on your main subject, locating it in a wider academic and/or vocational context

The Leeds Curriculum How will you be able to broaden? • Through your main disciplinary studies – programmes include: • modules which explore the relevance and application of your degree subjects in different contexts: academic and vocational • modules that introduce you to alternative perspectives on the ideas and issues you are studying • And – in most programmes – through your own choice of modules from the ten Discovery Themes

The Leeds Curriculum Discovery Themes: • Bring together modules from across the University to illuminate important ideas and issues. • Allow you to access inspirational modules taught by world-class experts. • Offer you real breadth of choice and the opportunity to pursue your own personal interests. • Are organised in a structured way to help you find the particular Discovery Modules that are right for you. • Allow you to pursue an interest in depth over two or more levels, or provide a taste of a new subject at a single level. • Provide flexibility to allow personalised progression paths.
