  2. Expressionism • Started in Germany- group of artists that passionately believe art should be more about expressing feelings than images of the real world. • Two groups: Die Brüke, DerBlaue Reiter.

  3. Die Brüke • Revival of graphic arts, especially in woodcuts. The black and white contrasts aided in the dramatic emotion, especially of the time of war, post war.

  8. DerBlaue Rider • Founded by Wassily Kandinsky ( after his “Blue Rider” painting). Focused more on color • Kandinsky was the first to totally abandon any object representation in his work- the first abstract art. • Convey emotion, especially from music.. Kandinsky’s “ Compositions”
