What are the SIX TRAITS of writing? • Ideas and Content – What are you saying? What are the main ideas? • Organization – How have you ordered your ideas? Is there a thread of central meaning? • Voice – Is your unique perspective as a writer coming through? Or are you just parroting the teacher/writing what you think is the ‘right’ answer’? • Word Choice – Are you using precise, rich, descriptive words? • Sentence Fluency – Is there a rhythm, flow, and variety in your sentences? • Conventions – Is your writing mechanically correct? Punctuation, spelling, grammar, capitalization (just to name a few)
