  2. m12-05-2013 TOPIC: -EQUIPPED WITH SURE HOPE DEVOTIONAL TEXT:- Psalm 130 SCRIPTURAL TEXT:- 2Peter 1:2-15, 20, 21 GOLDEN TEXT:- 2Peter 1:3:- “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness”

  3. AIM At the end of this lesson, we should be able to demonstrate hope in God’s power which is able to make us exhibit the godly virtues found in 2Peter 1:5-7.

  4. What are some things that are sometimes labeled “permanent”? How permanent is “permanent”? • “Permanent Wave” • “Permanent Gutter Guards” • “Permanent Markers” • “Permanent Press” • “Permanent Secretary” Photodisc/Thinkstock

  5. Most things labeled “Permanent” usually are not, for we do not live in a permanent world! This week’s lesson is about making change that is permanent for this life and beyond. Photodisc/Thinkstock

  6. LESSON OUTLINE:- (I.) Hope’s Resources to share in His Glory(2 Peter 1:2-7) (II.) Hope’s Character and Persistence to Enter His Kingdom(2 Peter 1:8-11) (III.) Hope’s Foundation, the Need to Remember(2 Peter 1:20, 21)

  7. Question 1: What helps you most to resist falling back into worldly corruption? How so? Points for Discussion • An Accountability Partner • Support of Fellow Believers • Personal Bible Study • Prayer

  8. Question 2: How do you recognize when unfruitfulness is starting to manifest itself in your life? Points for Discussion 1Pet.1:8-“For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (NIV) {Read 1Pet.1:5-7} Question 3:What are the factors that guarantee us entry into the kingdom of God? Question 4:What does it mean to live effective and fruitful Christian lives?

  9. MORE POINTS FOR DISCUSSIONMatthew 13:22; Luke 19:20-23; John 15:2-6;Ephesians 4:29-31; 5:3, 4; 2 Timothy 4:10. Unfruitfulness is a grave danger! The Scriptures repeatedly use images of plants that do not bear fruit to remind God’s people how serious is their response to God. (Examples: Isaiah 5:1-7; Luke 13:6-9; John 15:1-8).

  10. At the end this lesson, has the AIM achieved? Ladder of Virtues In verses 5-7, Peter uses what might be called a ladder of virtues to discuss the nature of growth that should be evident in our lives. These characteristics build on one another as we grow in Christian hope.

  11. Ladder of Virtues • Charity, or Love • Brotherly Kindness • Godliness • Patience, Perseverance • Temperance, or Self-control • Knowledge • Virtue, or Goodness • Faith

  12. The question is, what will we do with the message of the Power of the Gospel that Peter shared? Knowing and understanding that the truths we have accepted came directly from God by His Spirit (vv. 20, 21) Frame: Hemera Technologies/Photos.com/Thinkstock; Picture: Stockbyte/Thinkstock
