What Can Save Us From The Sequel Steve and Daniel
Clover Field • There are talks about a Sequel 3 months after the 1st film. • is there any point? • Does it need a sequel? • How can you follow on from something that looks to have already ended?
Clover Field • Typical sequel seems to be the director wanting to carry on the magic of the 1st film when it could do more damage than good…is this the case? • Peoples views…People have mixed views on a sequel. Some people think it could be good, others think there’s no need for one.
Clover Field • Quotes From film websites • ‘There doesn’t need to be a 2nd’ • ‘Not a bad idea’ • ‘How can you carry on a film when the monster is already dead, and the city has blown up?’ • ‘DON’T MAKE A SEQUEL, YOUR GOING ALL HOLLYWOOD ON US’ • ‘ A Sequel would ruin the 1st film’
Clover Field SEQUELS SEEM TO BE REALTED TO But do they work?????
Clover Field • Confusion in the plot and how will they explain in the sequel, or will they? • The 1st film is already looking back at what has already happened so how can you make a 2nd film when 1st is already over…
Clover Field BUT ∙ Once we looked into what would be the point of a sequel we found there was a lot of little clues within the film that explain a sequel, e.g. after the credits at the end, a tape is played and it says its still alive in reverse, also a small egg falls into the sea near the end, which you can’t see unless your looking for it. And is never explained why…..
Clover Field • So at first glance you think ‘you cant make a 2nd Clover Field’, but after doing research there may be signs that a sequel could work, they built up to a sequel without us even knowing.
Clover Field • So even though I thought a sequel would ruin the film, it looks like it could really work because of a build to a 2nd, rather than just doing one for the sake of it. • So in this instance, don’t save us from this Sequel.
Iron Man • Does Iron Man need another film…2 in fact…
Iron Man • Iron Man only came out 4 weeks ago and there are already plans for Iron Man 2…which seems to be old news as there’s talks about an Iron Man 3!!!!
Iron Man • There were no clues or build ups to a sequel in the first film, making a sequel to Iron man would be pointless and would be confirming the overall title of this presentation, as they’re only making it for the sake of it and don’t want to lose that Iron Man Magic that was made in the first film.
Iron Man • You can compare it to spider Man as there was no build up to the rest of the trilogy but they did it anyway, by creating new bad guys and Spiderman killed them all • So the main plot seems to be the same, so in return each were very predictable, will the same happen to Iron Man????
Iron Man • Quotes From other people ‘Sounds good to me! Saw Iron Man and loved it.’ ‘what will the bad guy be for iron man 2 ?’ ‘Spider-man should team up with Iron Man in IM2’
Iron Man • Our Opinions… • Were not denying that the sequels will not be watch able, but is there a need for them? Will it lose its Iron Man Magic? Maybe they should spend the money and time on recreating other marvel characters into film.
Are some Sequels being made too late. Are some sequels being made too late, once the film has had it’s day, is it worth bringing it back again, if you try to relive something that has already had it’s day, is it going to be another example of ruining the original. In other words is there any need for another? For example Robin Williams, who starred in Good Morning Vietnam which was made in 1987, has been writing a sequel for the film, twenty one years after the original. What will the sequel consist of, will it have anything to do with the original… Another example is Indiana Jones, there seems to be mixed views, some people like the film, but others think there’s no need for another sequel. Director Steven Spielberg has said that if the fourth film goes well, he will consider making a fifth film, this is another classic example of never letting go of the magic.
Conclusion. • Our conclusion on sequels is that you need to build up to a second instalment, otherwise we feel they’re keeping their film alive because of the image they’ve built, rather than keeping to a storyline, which seems to take the whole point out of film. We are not against sequels, we just believe that they need to be used properly. Some sequels work better than others, for example Star Wars. • After doing our research, we will definitely be thinking about why sequels are made. • So the answer to your question, what can save us from the Hollywood sequel is, there isn’t one, some Hollywood sequels work, others don’t, its what makes today’s film industry interesting , thank you for listening.
