  2. Objective • This Database is, quite simply a sound recordings catalog. As the following ERD shows, it keeps track of the physical recordings as well as the musical pieces, musicians, and groups include in each recording. • It is important for any catalog such as this to be able to cross-reference the following data: • Recordings and Titles • Musical Pieces • Performers • Composers • This is the main objective of this database.

  3. Track, Performance, and Performpiece entities allow adequate cross-referencing between the main entities of Musician, Group, Piece, and Recording.

  4. Because most recordings contain numerous Composers and/or Performers, entities such as Track and PerformPiece must accommodate duplicate attribute entries. This is necessary for the database to work properly.

  5. Some queries such as this one were created in order to accommodate common searches. This query brings up all recordings made by the "Big Five" American orchestras. (I haven't included any recordings by Boston or Philadelphia yet.)

  6. This report was created to show recordings organized by the principal performer. For example, the first recording is Beethoven Piano Sonatas performed by Vladimir Ashkenazy. If more were availble by Ashkenazy, they would follow.
